The Robert Burns Society of the Midlands (RBSM) was established in November 1978, when individuals of Scottish ancestry convened at Keenan High School in Columbia, South Carolina. The Society was officially chartered by the Secretary of State in May 1979. RBSM is dedicated to the study, preservation, and promotion of Scottish culture, customs, and traditions. Activities include publishing a newsletter, participating in Kirkin of the Tartans at local churches, and organizing various Scottish social events. The annual Robert Burns Dinner, held each January near the anniversary of the Bard’s birth (January 25th), is the Society’s most celebrated event. RBSM is recognized by the Robert Burns World Federation in Kilmarnock, Scotland.
